CCMA Members Forum - Menopause at Work - Insights & Learnings

Date: 20/11/2024

Venue: Dublin

Menopause has always been around. But women are now living and working for longer, which means more women are working through their menopause transition than ever before. The benefits of an employer understanding and addressing the impact of menopause at work include helping create a more inclusive culture, retain talent and improve performance and motivation. At this CCMA members forum, we will share valuable insights and key learnings to help organisations support employees during this transition.

At this members forum we are delighted to be joined by Susie Beaumont, a licensed Menopause Coach with a Menopause Coaching Diploma from "Women of a Certain Stage" and is a Licensed Menopause Champion  by "Menopause Experts Group". Susie is also an accredited life and executive coach with the International Coaching Federation (ICF). She is on a mission to  raise awareness about Menopause (particularly with employers) and has a passion for guiding women through Menopause and helping them thrive.

Our topics for discussion will include:

  • What is Menopause
  • The Impact of Menopause at Work
  • Managing the impact of Menopause at Work
  • How Menopause could be affecting your business
  • Workplace Health & Safety Risks
  • Recommended changes to workplace Health & Safety
  • Benefits of a robust Menopause Policy & training

Some key statistics to consider include:

  • 80% of women going through menopause are in the workplace
  • 75% of women experience menopausal symptoms
  • 63% say symptoms negatively impact their work
  • 46% were worried they would be perceived negatively
  • 41% were worried their abilities would be questioned
  • 25% considered leaving their jobs due to symptoms
  • 14% have gone part time
  • 1 in 3 say they do not feel comfortable talking to their manager about menopause
  • 1 in 10 who have worked during menopause left their job due to their symptoms

If an employee is experiencing some workplace challenges due to their symptoms, employers have a legal responsibility to discuss whether there are any supportive changes/ reasonable workplace adjustments that may assist.
